Activating nuts is the process of soaking nuts and seeds to soften them and make them more digestible. The process of soaking nuts takes off the phytic acid and lectins as well as other toxins and digestive inhibitors (hence “activating” them).
How do you activate nuts? You need good, clean, filtered water and some nuts. Place the number of nuts you need in a bowl and sprinkle them with a fair amount of good quality salt (such as sea salt), then leave them to soak anywhere from 4 hours to overnight.
When they’ve soaked long enough, drain them, add other spices if you’re so inclined, and put them in your dehydrator if you have one, or you can put them in the oven at the lowest temperature it allows, and leave the door open if you need to. Dehydrate for a good 16 hours (or leave them in the oven for about 10-12 hours.) Let them cool down and BOOM, you’ve made yourselves some salty crunchy nuts.
Make sure you use a covered glass container to keep them from absorbing any odors from the fridge!
